Garden Flower Wall
Use cinder blocks in an unusual way to make this fabulous garden planter wall.
Cinder blocks might be somewhat heavy but, when it comes to building the garden wall, they're not hard to arrange. Lay one block down so that it goes from left to right, and so that the holes are facing upwards. Lay the next one so that one long side of it is against the short end of the first one, and so that the holes are up. Lay a couple more blocks to go from left to right, then another that has its long side against the short side of the previous one. When you continue to do this, and make several rows of them, you create an eye-catching arrangement that's perfect for displaying many different types of flowers and plants.
Once you're finished with the first row, and you begin laying the cinder blocks on the second row, use Liquid Nail to secure them. You can find the common product at any hardware or home improvement store. It dispenses like caulk and works to hold many different objects together. Just outline the top of a block, and set the next one on it. Adhere the sides of the blocks as well.
The openings in the cinder blocks give you the opportunity to plant flowers - at least in the openings you can see. However, you'll need to create a bottom for each visible opening, to keep the plant inside. One way is to use the Liquid Nail product to glue rocks or cinder block chunks inside each opening. Another way is to cut a piece of flexible screen. Fold the sides of the screen up to make a tray shape and Liquid-Nail it inside the bottom of one block hole. The best screen to use is one with very tiny holes. Yet another choice for a block bottom is a piece of flashing, folded like a tray, and Liquid-Nailed to the inside.
After all of the bottoms are in the cinder blocks you can get busy planting. Set flowers - already in pots - down inside, or put the dirt directly into the opening, and plant the flowers. You'll love the unusual garden wall with a burst of color from your favorite flowers and plants.
