How to Make a Scarecrow from Recycled Materials
Making ones own scarecrow from old clothes found around the house is a fun family activity and a great way to decorate for fall.
Here is how to make a scare crow from recycled items around the house and yard:
Step 1: The legs are the easiest so let us begin here. Find an old pair of pants preferably pants that are tacky looking. Now tie the bottom of the pants with string do this as close to the bottom as possible.
Stuff the pants with old news paper or old clothes or if it is going outside leaves or straw. After this is done put these to the side and move on to the next step.
Step 2: Now that the pants are done one can attach shoes if one desires. This can be done by stuffing the bottom of the pants into an old pair of tennis shoes and stitching them on. Note: This part is optional.
Step 2: Find an old shirt one that has long sleeves. Attach the shirt to the pants using duct tape or simply stitching the pants and shirt together. Tie the sleeves at the bottom using string. Attach a pair of old gloves if you wish this too is optional.
After this is completed stuff the shirt with the same material as the pants.
Step 3: Now it is timer to make the head. Find an old t-shirt and turn it upside down attaching the sleeves and neck hole to the shirt with a needle and thread. Then stuff the top of the shirt until the head is formed.
Tie the end of the shirt with string, attach a hat or hair if one desires. The hair can be an old mop or simply material cut to look like hair. Attach this the same way just simply tie or stitch it on.
Step 4: Take a marker or simply paint a face on. This could be an ugly, mean or friendly face. Use your imagination and try to remember your audience.
When finished with this project one will have a unique scarecrow and one that is safe and not manufactured in China. Remember doing things as a family is always fun.
