Gardening on Wizard101 Game Guide and Review
Wizard101 has added gardening to their popular game. This is a guide to help you get started growing magical plants in your Wizard's dorm or house.
With everything Wizard101 has going for it already, they just added a new dimension to the game --gardening. Gardens are blooming all over Wizard101. Any Wizard Level 12 or higher can garden in their dorm room or house. But this is no ordinary gardening, this is gardening the Wizard way by magic of course!
I have six Wizards and I garden on each of them. This guide will help you on your way to gardening success in Wizard101.
To get started visited Moolinda Wu, the life school teacher. She will send you to Farley the Gardener in Golem Court for instructions in how to garden. Farley will teach you how to care for your plants through each stage of life from planting to Elder plant. Your plants will be ready for harvesting when they are in the mature and Elder stages. He will have you begin with a free seed and a few gardening spells, though you can always buy more or win them in mob and boss battles.
Gardening uses the green mana that pets use also. So every action you do in your garden will cost a little bit of mana. Some people like to focus on either training pets or gardening, I am able to do both with no real problem although I mainly garden.
Don't have your house yet? No worries. You don't need a house to garden. You can garden in pots in your dorm room. If you do have a house you can garden outside or inside. There are ten levels in gardening to master. You earn experience and level by harvesting your plants. You want to be sure you check your plants at least once a day. Each plant has its own requirements in order to reach maturity and Elder stage. I like to check two or three times a day.
When planning out your garden try to place your plots close together if you can. There are some spells that have an area of effect so that casting it on a plant will also help nearby plants. That saves you energy. Also be careful when planting that you place seeds next to other plants it likes. And be sure to avoid any plants it dislikes. You can find this infomation by mousing over your seed in your inventory.
Once you have planted a seed and your plant is growing it will have various needs. When you are starting out you a given a few spells to help with growing. Additional growing spells and spells against pests your plant picks up can be purchased with in-game gold from Farley. There are exclusive plants available by crowns (real money) but you can have a fantastic garden without that.
You'll probably start out with a free dandelion seed. Thats what I was given by Farley. And I chose three extra seeds to try out in the beginning. When you start you'll only be able to plant Level 1 seeds but you will quickly rise in gardening levels as you play. With those first seeds I had, I think I was at Level 2 or 3 within just a few days.
After you plant your seeds, any time you go to your home or dorm room you will most likely see that your plants have needs. There is a Garden inventory button located next to the Housing inventory button in the lower right hand side of your screen. Click it to open your Gardening Inventory. As you mouse over your plants with that open, you will see what your plants require. There is also a tiny icon visible above each plant alerting you to what it needs. It may need to be watered, or to be pollinated or need music. Those are usually the most common needs in the beginning. You will cast the spell that matches what the plant needs. It will cost you a tiny bit of green globe mana for each spell.
Occasionally your plant might get pests. Plants require you to apply a pest killing spell to get rid of them. The one you will start out with is called Bug Bolt and you can pick that up from Farley in Golem Court.
By taking good care of your plants you will reap rewards at harvest time. One plant might yield few harvests in its life cycle. Common harvest rewards include a little bit of gold, and/or a treasure card or rare reagents for crafting or even a free seed from your plants as well as experience. Gardening is not what I would call super profitable but it is really enjoyable.
One thing to remember is that you can only harvest your plants when you don't have the gardening inventory window open. That has to be closed or it won't let you harvest. You will know its time to harvest when you walk up to a plant and a little box pops up telling you its ready to be harvested. Harvesting is just clicking the "x" on that box.
There are a nice variety of seeds available in all worlds throughout the Spiral for you to buy and place in your garden. I really love the snapdragons which look like actual dragons with wings that flap and they do snap at you at times which is funny. My favorite so far though is the Evil Snow Peas. These are pea pod plants that hold three little peas in a pod. But the peas don't stay in the pod. They like to hop out and kind of bounce around the ground and then jump back in the pod. It cracks me up every time I visit my garden. The dandelions look like dandelions with lion faces. Boom Shrooms are mushrooms that explode, go boom and then reappear. Those are great for leveling. They grow pretty fast and give good amount of experience. And there are many more plants than what I've listed to choose from for your magical garden. You will find those you really love.
Gardening is a great addition to Wizard101. Its a nice break from battling and crafting. And it does help with both of those by giving you harvest rewards you can use in your battles and craft quests. I just love the gardening feature and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
