Ryobi Tiller Review
The Ryobi Tiller is well made and durable. It performs well but has hard to find parts.
The Ryobi Tiller I bought is light, under thirty pounds. There is a cushy sponge handle to grab and carry it around. It has wheels on the bottom and you can push it. The blades hit the ground when you do this so it is better to carry it.
The Ryobi is easy to start and operate. You flip a start switch, prime it, and pull the lawnmower style chord. You have a hand control to switch engine speeds. My 31cc Ryobi had a broken prime; I never used it. It still started.
The Ryobi 31cc Tiller uses a gas and oil mixture. The mix is one gallon gas to four ounces of oil. They tell you to use the Ryobi brand oil. I have never used this oil. I have used chainsaw oil that is also mixed with gas. I used regular car engine oil the last time I used the Ryobi. Each time it cranked right up and the engine didn't burn.
I also had trouble finding the Ryobi gas plug in stores. When I first took it home I was unable to plug the hole in the tank. I taped it but the gas ate through the adhesive. I put cork, erasers and other objects in to no avail. I ended up just filling in with oil and gas and using it till it all ran out the hole. Even abusing the machine like this I didn't start a fire or get blown up. The machine worked fine but I could only use it for thirty minutes.
The Ryobi performs well. The blades are sturdy enough to bang against rocks. It can churn up even the hard earth here in Georgia. It does have a five inch depth limit but that is enough for most gardens. The machine has a lot of power; I have to watch what I aim it at.
I conclude that the Ryobi Tiller is a well made powerful machine. It is easy to use and hard to abuse. It is a hassle to get the special Ryobi oil and other parts. You might have to get them online. I think it is worth the trouble for this reliable product.
