Soundgarden is Back with New CD and New Tour This Summer
It's been nearly 15 years since Soundgarden has been in the studio and out on the road but the band is back, planning a new CD and Tour for the summer of 2020.
Grunge Revolutionaries
Soundgarden formed back in 1984 but did not break the big time until the early 1990's when their home base of Seattle, Washington became ground zero for rock n' roll rebellion. Grunge turned Soundgarden and fellow Seattle rockers Pearl Jam and Nirvana from indie rockers into immediate icons.
The height of Soundgarden's popularity came in 1994 with the release of the multi-platinum CD "Superunknown." Known for it's Zeppelin-esque layered sound, "Superunknown" was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Album and spawned 5 singles including arguably the band's biggest hit, the ballad "Black Hole Sun."
Live on I-5
It's been nearly 15 years since singer Chris Cornell, guitarist Kim Thayil, bassist Ben Shepard and drummer Matt Cameron have been in the studio together. Recently, the band had been laying the groundwork for a comeback by releasing a retrospective called "Telephantasm" and a live CD called "Live on I-5," both for A amp; M/UME.
"Live I-5" is a reference to a stretch of West Coast interstate highway and was culled from Soundgarden's 1996 west coast tour. It was the first time the band had recorded live shows and they brought along recording engineer Adam Kasper to help them capture the best possible live versions of classics like "Spoonman" and "Rusty Cage" along with covers of The Beatles "Helter Skelter" and The Stooges' "Search and Destroy."
